Rummaging old things at home

Posted by NuclearTaco2004 - December 1st, 2024

Over Thanksgiving break in college, I have been rummaging through my attic to not just get Christmas decorations out, but to find old things that might possibly work. I forgot to mention I have been doing this for years, specifically since I was in middle school. I am a retro fanboy, so I look for old computer stuff like CDs, disk drives, etc. I have an old HP Computer my dad wanted to throw away, but I insisted on keeping it for myself since I wanted to preserve it as a memento and use it for retro gaming. It works mostly, but months ago, it had an issue of it boot looping and never reaching the XP Boot screen after a week for so, probably because the capacitors near the CPU are blown. I did manage to find a Windows XP boot disc with the official cover and stuff.

A month or two before today, I also got into the idea of dumpster diving or looking where I can find old computers that are being donated. My dad's office has a couple old pieces of tech that have yet to be thrown out. Perhaps I could ask if I could have some to keep or sell on Ebay or what not.
